The “Maha” which means “huge”, gathering in the world of Hindus from all over the world is currently taking place in Prayagraj, India.
This religious festival is an equalizer that sees hundreds of millions of devotees from across economic, caste and social stratas partaking in religious discourses and debates, taking a dip together at the confluence of holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. This dip is believed to cleanse one’s soul and guide one to the path of spiritual enlightenment.
The “Kumbh” originates in the belief that in the tussle between God Vishnu and the demons for the golden pitcher holding the nectar of immortality, 4 drops fell on earth. One of the drops fell in Prayagraj and the other 3 in Haridwar, Nasik and Ujjain, where the ‘Kumbh’ mela rotates every 4 years with the ‘Maha Kumbh’ occurring every 12 years.
One highlight of the 2025 event was a Prayagraj resident Anamika Sharma unfurling the Maha Kumbh flag while skydiving 13000 feet over Bangkok inviting devotees to the event prior to its commencement.

Another highlight was Laurene Powell, wife of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, attending the Kumbh Mela and partaking in Hinduism “Sanatan Dharma” pooja’s and activities.
